Apologia Daily ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service.
This Policy describes what we collect and why. If you do not agree with any part of it, please do not use the Service, and contact us with any questions.
2. Information We Collect
We collect the following types of information:
Account information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and optionally your name. If you arrived through someone’s invite or referral link, we record that referral code with your account. We ask the month and year you were born. If you are 18 or over, we keep only that fact (“18+”), and not the date. If you are 13 to 17, we keep the month you turn 18, which is the same as your birth month and year, so that Study Groups open to you automatically; within a week after that month arrives we replace it with “18+” and delete the date (see section 9). When an account is created (and again when its email address is confirmed) we receive an email notification containing the account’s email address, so we know someone has joined.
Progress data: We store your learning progress, streak data, study plan progress, flashcards, mastery and quiz results, and the scores from Explain It Back.
Conversation journal entries: The Conversation Journal was retired on 30 September 2026 and no longer collects anything. Entries saved before then stay in your account until you delete your account, which removes them.
Study group content: If you create or join a Study Group, we store the group details, your membership, your display name, the messages you post, and your “studied today” check-ins. Other members of that group can see your display name and messages. If you report a message, the report (including the message text) is sent to us by email so we can review it. If a group’s creator deletes their account, the group and all its messages are deleted.
Usage and analytics data: pages you view, buttons and links you click, how far you scroll, the page or campaign link that brought you to the site, and your browser and device type. See section 7 for how this is collected.
Push notifications: If you turn on notifications, your browser gives us a push address and encryption keys so we can send you reminders. These are not linked to your account.
IP address: Our hosting provider and security tools see your IP address when you use the Service. To limit abuse of the AI features and public forms we keep a daily count of requests per visitor, stored against a one-way scrambled (hashed) form of the IP address rather than the address itself, and deleted automatically within three weeks.
Payment information: Pro is not yet available and we take no payments. If paid plans launch, payments will be handled by a payment provider (such as Stripe, or Apple and Google in the mobile app), and we will update this Policy before they do.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
Send you service-related communications such as account confirmations and password resets
Send the weekly summary email and study-group reminders (you can unsubscribe from the link in any of them)
Occasionally ask you for feedback about the Service. You can tell us not to ask again at any time.
Track your learning progress and personalise your experience
Power AI features including Asked & Answered, the Debate Arena, the AI Tutor and Explain It Back
Detect and prevent fraud and abuse
Comply with legal obligations
Legal bases (for visitors in the UK and EEA): we process account, progress and study-group data to provide the Service you signed up for (performance of a contract); security, abuse prevention and cookie-free page-view counts (Vercel Web Analytics) on the basis of our legitimate interest in running a safe, working site; PostHog analytics in your browser only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time (section 7); two server-side counts (below) on the basis of our legitimate interest in knowing how many people sign up and ask questions; and the weekly summary and study-group reminder emails on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping you engaged with the Service you signed up for; you can object at any time with the unsubscribe link in any of them.
4. AI Features and Data Processing
Several features of Apologia Daily are powered by Anthropic’s Claude AI. When you use Asked & Answered, the Debate Arena, the AI Tutor, Explain It Back or the devotional follow-up questions, what you type is sent to Anthropic’s API to generate the reply.
We do not save your AI conversations to your account or to our database.
Explain It Back saves only your score for each argument, so your progress can be tracked. Your written explanation and the AI’s feedback are shown on screen and not stored. (Entries made before 8 October 2026 may also contain the text you wrote; they are deleted when you delete your account, or on request.)
Questions typed into the “Submit question” box on our Answers page are checked for signs that someone may need help, and then discarded. We do not store them or email them to anyone; we only count that a question was asked.
Our hosting provider (Vercel) keeps short-lived technical logs of requests, which can include error details. We do not deliberately log the text of your messages.
Anthropic’s handling of what is sent to its API is governed by its own terms and privacy policy. We encourage you to review Anthropic’s Privacy Policy.
5. Data Storage and Security
Your account data is stored securely using Supabase, a cloud database provider with enterprise-grade security. Your data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest.
We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.
Progress data such as streak counts, quiz scores, and study plan progress is stored locally in your browser’s localStorage in addition to your account. This means it is also accessible on the device you used to complete the activity.
No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to provide the Service:
Anthropic: AI language model powering Asked & Answered, the Debate Arena, the AI Tutor, Explain It Back and the devotional follow-up questions. Privacy Policy

Cloudflare Turnstile: Bot/abuse protection on sign-in and sign-up. Privacy Policy
jsDelivr: Delivers some of the code libraries the site runs on; it receives your IP address when your browser fetches them. Privacy Policy
YouTube (privacy-enhanced mode): Video lessons. A preview image is loaded from YouTube’s image server (i.ytimg.com) when a lesson is shown; the YouTube player itself loads only when you press play. Privacy Policy
Tesseract language data (tessdata.projectnaptha.com): If you use the “read a screenshot” feature, your browser downloads text-recognition data from this host. The image itself is read on your device and never uploaded.
Web push services run by your browser’s maker (for example Google, Apple or Mozilla): deliver notifications, if you turn them on.
These providers have their own privacy policies governing their use of your data. We encourage you to review their policies.
7. Analytics, Cookies and Local Storage
We use two analytics tools to understand how the Service is used:
Vercel Web Analytics counts page views and where visitors come from. It sets no cookie and stores nothing on your device, so it runs for every visitor.
Two server-side counts in PostHog, which set no cookie and do not depend on the choice below: when an account is created, our server records that event with the account’s internal ID (not the email address); and when a question is submitted on the Answers page, it records only that one was submitted and from which page — no text and no identifier.
PostHog (data held in the EU) runs in your browser only if you choose “Allow analytics” in the box shown on your first visit; until then it is not loaded at all. If you allow it, it records the pages you view, the links you click (not the text of buttons, and nothing at all on the sign-in, account, AI chat, debate, devotional and Study Groups pages), how far you scroll, and the page or campaign link (such as a ref or utm tag) that brought you here. It stores a random identifier in a cookie and in your browser’s localStorage so visits from the same browser can be grouped. If you are signed in, this is linked to your account’s internal ID — never your email address or name. It does not record what you type into forms or chat boxes, and we do not use session recording (screen replay).
We also use localStorage to remember your progress, streak and preferences, and your last few Ask Anything questions (on your device only), and a cookie and localStorage to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not sell or share your data for advertising.
Change your choice at any time: (this also removes PostHog’s cookie and stored identifier from this browser).
To turn all analytics off in a browser, visit apologiadaily.com/?nocount=1 once; this stops both analytics tools in that browser (visit ?nocount=0 to turn them back on). You can also clear the site’s cookies and localStorage in your browser settings, though that will reset locally stored progress.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:
Access: You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
Correction: You may request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
Deletion: You may delete your account yourself, at any time, from your Dashboard (under “Account”). This immediately and permanently removes your account, progress, flashcards, study plans, Explain It Back history, journal entries, study-group memberships, messages and check-ins, coach history, and any groups you created. A few things are not removed by that button: analytics records in PostHog (email us and we will delete them), push-notification registrations (they are not linked to your account — turn notifications off in your browser), hashed rate-limit counts (deleted automatically within three weeks), short-lived hosting logs, the signup notification emails we received when you joined, and any emails you have sent us. You may also email us to request deletion.
Portability: You may request your data in a portable format.
Objection: You may object to certain uses of your data, including analytics and emails.

9. Children's Privacy
You must be 13 or older to create an account. The signup form asks for your month and year of birth; if you are under 13, the form closes and nothing you typed is sent to us or stored. Reading the site does not need an account.
If you are 13 to 17, you can use everything except Study Groups, which are open chat between members and are for adults (18+). This is enforced by our database, not just by the page. If you are under 18, please have a parent or guardian’s permission to use the Service.
If a child under 13 has an account: a parent or guardian can delete it straight away from the account’s Dashboard (under “Account”), or email contact@apologiadaily.com with the subject “Child account” and the email address the account uses. We will delete the account and its data within 7 days and confirm by email. We will not ask for any information about the child beyond what is needed to find the account. If someone using an account tells us (for example in the age question on the Study Groups page) that they are under 13, the account is deleted automatically within 14 days (the age question asks them to confirm first). If we learn in any other way that an account belongs to a child under 13, we will delete it.
Study Groups are for adults (18 and over), because members can message each other.
10. Data Retention
Account, progress and study-group data: kept while your account is active; deleted immediately when you delete your account (section 8).
Push-notification registrations: kept until you turn notifications off and your browser’s push service tells us the registration is no longer valid.
Rate-limit counts (hashed IP address and day): deleted automatically within three weeks.
Signup notifications: kept in our mailbox.
Age record: “18+” is kept while your account is active and deleted with it. For 13–17, the month you turn 18 is kept until that month arrives, then deleted within a week.
Analytics (PostHog): kept to understand how the Service is used over time, and deleted on request.
Hosting logs (Vercel): kept for a short period set by Vercel.
Emails you send us (including message reports): kept in our mailbox as long as needed to deal with them.
Where we are required by law to keep something longer, we will keep only what the law requires. Anonymised and aggregated data that cannot be used to identify you may be retained indefinitely for analytics and product improvement purposes.
11. International Transfers
Apologia Daily is operated from Australia. Your information may be processed in Australia and in the countries where our providers operate, including the United States and the European Union. Where UK or EEA data protection law applies, those transfers are covered by our providers’ standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by email or by posting a notice on the Service. The date at the top of this Policy indicates when it was last updated.
Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
